King Oberon & The three relics: Part I

Chapter I

Once upon a time there lived a young king. Like most kings, he dreamed of glory. But unlike most kings, he achieved it. For hundreds of years, the Seelie Court lived in fear of their northern neighbours, the Unseelie. The Unseelie thrived on chaos and fear. They tormented the Seelie, making their lives miserable. Using three magical artifacts that were passed down to every Unseelie King, the Unseelie were unmatched in power. With The Book Of Knowing, The Chalice of Fate and The First Fae’s Sword, the Unseelie King could not be stopped.

After watching his people suffer at the hands of the wicked Unseelie, the young Seelie King, Oberon, raised an army and fought against his enemy. After three long years of war, Oberon and his army defeated the Unseelie King. Taking the three powerful Unseelie artifacts, Oberon dismantled the two courts, and created a unified kingdom, Shadowmere.

Chapter II

Now, after years of peace, the kingdom of Shadowmere is getting ready to celebrate three important battles that were a part of Oberon the Great’s conquest. Throughout the kingdom, people will gather to honour The Battle of Mor, Siege of Hope and The Battle of Two Kings. As the mead flows, they will celebrate their freedom with music, dancing and feasting.

Merry citizens from across Shadowmere will venture far and wide to honour the great sacrifice and success of their ancestors. Evening Affair, In honour of The Battle of Mor, Rustic Renaissance Faire, In honour of Siege of Hope, Yuletide Ball, In honour of The Battle of Two Kings.

But while they gather in celebration, an unknown darkness moves in the shadows. Rumours of an Unseelie Heir seeking revenge have been spreading throughout taverns in the northern regions of Shadowmere. Some claim they seek the three magical artifacts that Oberon stole from the Unseelie King – the three objects that could give them the power to reclaim the Unseelie throne.

Chapter III

A twist of fate. Something has changed. The night is dark. Not even the moon shines. The night is quiet. But if you listen closely, you will hear the wind as it whispers. A forgotten name slips from its lips, as it weaves a tale of revenge.

While everyone is dreaming, the king's library has been broken into. The Book of Knowing has been taken.

Chapter IIII

Word has spread throughout the kingdom of Shadowmere that The Book of Knowing has gone missing. The crown has assured the people that there is nothing to fear.

“Good gentle citizens of Shadowmere. Fear not. There is no Unseelie Heir. We have full faith that the gods will bring the book back to us.”

But fear is rising. Panic has embedded itself into the hearts of its citizens. Many are afraid to leave their homes. Some have cancelled their plans to travel to the upcoming festivities.

Could the rumours of an Unseelie Heir be true? Has the time of peace come to an end?

Chapter V

A knight triumphant strolls out onto the balcony amongst the celebration and proclaims, “Attention ladies and gentlemen. It is time that we raise our glasses to toast the great accomplishment of our king and protector, Oberon. As we gather here tonight we honour those who fought in Oberon the Great’s conquest. The Battle of Mor was fought on this–”

Just then, a second knight comes running out from the balcony door, in a panic. “IT’S GONE! IT’S GONE! The Chalice of Fate has been stolen!”

Villages from the crowd start murmuring when one yells out “The rumours are true! The Unseelie Heir lives! They have finally come to take revenge on us all!”

The first knights tries to calm the crowd, “Alright, alright everyone calm down, there is no Unseelie He–”

“Aye! There is an Unseelie Heir! Hide your childlings, protect your wives and board up your homes. The heir comes to take revenge on all who fought against his blood!”, the villager yells out.

“That is enough! We do not know what has happened but I am sure it is just a misunderstanding. Now please everyone remain calm.” The first knight points to the band. “Ah, yes, the bards are here! Play us a song to calm the crowd.”

King Oberon & The three relics: Part II

Chapter I

Over the next few days, word of the Chalice of Fate disappearing at The Battle of Mor memorial event spread far and wide. The crown has been unusually quiet on the matter, there has been no official statement from King Oberon. However, citizens have noticed a greater presence of royal guards throughout the realm.

Magic wielding citizens of Shadowmere swear they can feel a shift in the air. The balance of light and darkness is changing. The pendulum of power is swinging. Whoever has stolen The Book of Knowing and The Chalice of Fate is on their way to becoming the most powerful being in all the realm.

If the rumours are true and the Unseelie Heir lives, what will become of Shadowmere?

Chapter II

The Creation of the Magical Artifacts – Part One

Before Shadowmere was formed, before the days of the Seelie and Unseelie courts, the First Fae walked the earth. Among them was a powerful fae sorcerer, Cirrus.

Cirrus was a young fae with a curious mind. He loved magic and made it his mission to learn everything he could about it. From researching to apprenticing, Cirrus did all he could do to understand the complex nature of magic. He believed that if he could master the art of magic, he would be able to solve any problem his people had.

He dreamed of a world without hunger, disease and war. He dreamed of a world where magic could strip away evil, and all beings could live in harmony. This dream fuelled his research.

Over the long years of his life, Cirrus poured his soul into his study. During this time he created many magical artifacts. But three artifacts stood out from the rest. The Book of Knowing, The Chalice of Fate and The First Fae’s Sword, were more powerful than anything the sorcerer could have ever imagined creating.

Chapter III

The Creation of the Magical Artifacts – Part Two

One afternoon that seemed like an ordinary afternoon, Cirrus was in his workshop. Like always the fae sorcerer was testing magical theories. In typical Cirrus fashion, his work table was covered with books, loose parchment, and different cauldrons, bubbling with spells.

Accompanying Cirrus this afternoon was his young apprentice, Revon. As the sorcerer worked, his apprentice swept the floors, everything was as it always was, until fate intervened.

Cirrus, too lost in his work, didn't notice the loose parchment on the floor. He slipped, knocking into the table, causing the three magical potions he was working on to spill on his notebook. The three potions intertwined, covering the notebook in their magic.

Cirrus wasn’t sure how it happened, but from that moment on, the book was enchanted, giving its reader the answer to any question they sought. All one had to do was hold the book in their hands and ask their question. The book would open on its own, flip to a page, and the answer would appear.

Thus, The Book of Knowing was created.

Chapter IIII

The Creation of the Magical Artifacts – Part Three

“Is there a way to control fate?” Revon asked Cirrus one morning.

“Why do you ask?” Cirrus responded.

“If one could control fate, one could stop disasters and wars before they even happen.”

Cirrus sat in his favourite chair and pondered his apprentice’s words. Could there be a way to control fate?

Cirrus went to his work table and over the next few weeks, he poured himself into his work. Cirrus lost time; he became obsessed with trying to find a way to control fate.

Then in the early hours of the morning, Cirrus yelled, “Revon! Revon, come quick!”

The apprentice came running from his chambers. “What is it, sir?” he asked, as he tried to catch his breath.

“I did it.” Cirrus held up a golden chalice. “Anyone who drinks out of this cup will be able to control their fate for a short while.”

And so, the Chalice of Fate was born.

Chapter V

The Creation of the Magical Artifacts – Part Four

A knock on the door woke Cirrus in the middle of the night. He rushed out of bed to see who it was, and to his surprise, found two royal knights.

“Lord Cirrus, the king sends word,” one knight said, as he handed Cirrus a letter with the royal seal.

Cirrus opened the letter and carefully read the king’s words. The king asked him to create a magical object that could help him in the ongoing wars with the goblins.

Cirrus didn’t waste any time. He got to work straight away. He was certain that with The Book of Knowing and The Chalice of Fate the king would have an advantage against the goblins. But he felt like something was missing.

Over the next few days, Cirrus forged the First Fae’s Sword.

“Revon, I did it.” Cirrus held up the silver sword, moving it from side to side. “With this sword our king will never miss his target. All it needs is a drop of the king’s blood and it will be sired to him.”

Suddenly, pain erupted in Cirrus' back. He turned to see Revon standing beside him with a blood-covered dagger. Cirrus’ blood. Revon didn’t hesitate. He plunged the dagger into Cirrus’ stomach. Cirrus cried out in pain as he fell to the floor.

Chapter VI

The Creation of the Magical Artifacts – Part Five

Cirrus watched in horror as Revon grabbed the First Fae’s Sword and pricked the end of his thumb with the blade, siring the magical sword to him.

“I have been waiting for this moment,” Revon said. “With these three magical objects, I will be unstoppable. I will have all the glory and power. I will kill the king and all of his supporters, and rule over all the fae. Every being in this realm will bow before me.”

Cirrus was losing too much blood. He knew he was dying. With his last breath, he cursed Revon.

“You may hold more power than all, but you will never be able to eliminate all of those who oppose you. Your power will be bound to these three objects, but even they will have limits.”

“We shall see about that,” Revon snarled as he took the First Fae’s Sword and put it through Cirrus’ heart.

With the three magical artifacts, Revon was able to channel more power than any other before him. He ended the war with the goblins. But when he turned to attack the fae, Cirrus’ curse held true. He could cause harm, but never eliminate those who opposed him.

Regardless, many followed Revon and soon the fae were divided. Revon and his followers became the Unseelie, while those who followed the true fae king became the Seelie.

Chapter VII

Present Day

In a tavern on the outskirts of Frodence, patrons were eating and drinking. Card games were being played, while a bard sang a ballad. It was a normal night until a puff of black smoke appeared.

Startled, the patrons looked from side to side for the source. As the smoke faded away, a hooded and masked figure stood on a table.

“I am the Unseelie Heir,” the masked figure shouted. “Rise up, brothers and sisters. Join my army and together we will destroy the Seelie scum once and for all.”

Some patrons fled the tavern immediately, while others got on their knees and pledged their loyalty.

Chapter VII

As the second event honouring the Great Conquest of King Oberon approaches, more appearances of the Unseelie Heir have been reported.

News of an army forming has spread across the land. King Oberon has started to enlist civilians into his army. The First Fae’s sword has been placed under the highest protection.

Brave, loyal citizens will attend the event and pay tribute to the Siege of Hope. But one question remains on everyone’s mind.

Will the Unseelie Heir strike again?

Chapter VIIII

“Welcome, merry citizens of Shadowmere. It is an honour to pay tribute to the Siege of Hope with you. We are so pleased to have so many of you interested in joining the King’s Guard. As you are all aware, two of the three of Cirrus’ Magical Artifacts have disappeared.” shouted the first knight, Jaclyn.

The second knight, Joshua added, “And if that wasn’t bad enough, news has come from Frodence saying a masked man claiming to be the Unseelie heir has been visiting taverns, gaining supporters, and building an army of his own.”

“It is more important than ever that the King’s Guard recruits are trained properly," Jaclyn said with a serious tone, "These are dark times that we are living in.”

“Yes, they are dark times indeed," Joshua agreed, “But maybe a change in leadership could be a good thing? It could be nice to have a powerful Unseelie king back on the throne.”

“You dare talk ill about our king?" said Jaclyn as she looked at Joshua in shock and confusion.

Joshua starts to laugh, “Oh, come now. I am only joking, of course,” as he places hand over heart, “I am one of the King’s Guard, after all. I am loyal to 'The Great' Oberon. But enough with riddles and jokes.” Points sword at the crowd. “Who among you has what it takes to join the King’s Guard? Who is brave enough to defend our beloved Shadowmere in these troubling times?”

“Aye. Today we will train you new recruits, to protect yourselves and the realm against any threats that arise.” Jaclyn says as she raises her sword to Joshua and they begin to show the basics of sword fighting. It was then that Joshua cheats and puts Jaclyn in peril infront of the villages.

Jaclyn throws him to the side and Joshua brushes it off as a joke. Jaclyn recovers and turns to the crowd and says,"As you go about your day, be on the look out for any masked people, or unusual business. Make sure you keep your eyes open, and swords at the ready.” She places fist over heart. “Remember dear friends, no matter how dark things may seem, there is always hope.” Raises sword up. “So take heart! Together we can defeat any evil that comes our way.”

The rest of the afternoon was spent training the villagers to protect their village.

King Oberon & The three relics: Part III

Chapter I

King Oberon paced back and forth in his chambers. Running a hand through his long, silver hair, he let out a deep sigh.

The memorial for the Siege of Hope had been successful. There had been no sightings of the Unseelie heir, and the First Fae’s Sword was still safe in his possession. But even with the good news, he couldn’t help being wary.

Oberon turned and looked out his north-facing window. He stared out at the mountains in the distance, and a terrible sense of dread washed over him.

Wherever the Unseelie heir was, Oberon knew they weren’t finished.

Chapter II

“We had record numbers of new recruits in the King’s Guard,” Willow, Oberon’s right hand, said.

The pair sat at a table in the king’s war room, staring at a map of Shadowmere.

“And what of the Unseelie heir?” Oberon asked. “Any new sightings?”

“We have had word of three more sightings. All of the incidents are the same. A person in a mask has been asking for people to join their army. Our spies cannot find where they are gathering their troops.”

Oberon slammed his fist on the table. “We need to find this heir and their army before they get too strong. We need to end this now. Put all of our efforts into finding them.”

“Yes, Your Grace,” Willow said before she left the table and started her task.

Chapter III

The Conquest of Oberon the Great: Part 1

Revon, King of the Unseelie ruled the Winter and Autumn Courts with an iron fist. Though he could never fully get rid of the Seelie, he did all he could to torment them.

Oberon, the young Seelie prince, grew up watching his people suffer. He watched as his father gave in to Revon’s threats, doing whatever he could to appease the Unseelie King. When Revon asked for taxes, the Seelie King gave him a portion of the monthly harvest. He even turned a blind eye when Unseelie attacked Seelie cities.

“It is for the greater good,” Oberon’s father would tell him. But no matter how hard he tried, Oberon couldn’t stomach the way his father cowered in fear. He vowed to the Gods that when he became king, he would do things differently.

Chapter IIII

The Conquest of Oberon the Great: Part 2

On the eve of Oberon’s 34th birthday, his father fell gravely ill and passed away in the night. As he grieved his father’s death, the court planned for his coronation.

When the day of the coronation came, Revon and his court of wicked Unseelie crashed the celebration. They overturned tables, spilled wine, and threw food across the floor. Several guests were even injured in the chaos. Before leaving, Revon raised his glass, toasting the new king. “To the weak Seelie heir, may he always know his place.”

As Oberon was crowned king of the Seelie, he knew what he had to do. He knew in his bones that he had become king so that he could restore the balance of power between the Seelie and Unseelie.

Thus, Oberon’s Conquest started. In a secret room in the castle, with only his closest advisors, Oberon plotted the first steps in overthrowing the Unseelie King.

Chapter V

The Conquest of Oberon the Great: Part 3

The initial maneuvers of Oberon’s conquest were simple. While on the road collecting the annual taxes, Oberon and his advisor met in secret with the kingdom’s lords and nobles. Oberon soon learned that he was not alone in his desire to stand up to the Unseelie.

By the cover of night, they would meet and discuss their plans to attack the Unseelie. Slowly but surely, they gained more and more support, and Oberon’s secret army grew in strength.

Chapter VI

The Conquest of Oberon the Great: Part 4

Oberon sat on a hill overlooking the water. The sea wind blew his golden hair. The sun slowly came out over the horizon, turning the blue world warm. He knew the time had come to start his attack. He looked out into the water and prayed to all the gods, asking for their guidance, support and blessing.

On the next summer equinox King Oberon marched his troops to Turora and surprised Revon and his court during their equinox celebration.

Revon was caught off guard but his army was strong. The battle lasted two days, and both armies lost brave soldiers.

In the end Revon retreated, giving Oberon his first victory in the war of the courts. The Seelie hope burned brighter.

Chapter VII

The Conquest of Oberon the Great: Part 5 The Battle of Mor

During the long war between the two courts, the armies came together on the fields of Mor.

This battle was the deadliest battle ever to occur in all of Shadowmere.

It was a dark day, clouds filled the sky, blocking out the sun completely. As the Seelie and Unseelie met in the middle of the field, rain started to pour down from the heavens.

Blood and mud covered the field as swords clashed between the Fae. Neither side could claim a victory. Instead, both kings withdrew their armies. Both sides lost many good males and females.

The weight of this battle changed Oberon. He knew that he could not let this war go on for long.

Chapter VII

The Conquest of Oberon the Great: Part 6 Siege of Hope

In the middle of autumn, the Seelie and Unseelie armies met again. Under the red, yellow, and orange leaves, the Seelie army broke through the Unseelie’s ranks.

Willow, Oberon’s right hand, came face to face with Revon. The two fought and in a twist of fate that could only be credited to the gods, Willow was able to take the First Fae’s Sword from Revon.

This turning point brought hope for the Seelie court. The people rejoiced, and Oberon’s faith in his mission increased.

Chapter VIIII

The Conquest of Oberon the Great: Part 7 The Battle of Two Kings

It was a fortnight before Yule, and King Oberon was growing tired of the war. He wanted it over. After losing the First Fae’s Sword, Oberon knew Revon was at his weakest.

After talking with his advisors, Oberon sent a letter to Revon, challenging him to combat. One final battle, just king against king. Whoever won would win the war.

Revon agreed, and on Yule Eve, the two kings fought for victory.

Chapter X

The Conquest of Oberon the Great: Part 8 The Battle of Two Kings

The Battle of Two Kings lasted for hours. The two fae kings were ruthless. They gave everything they had trying to eliminate their opponent once and for all.

Seelie and Unseelie watched as their leaders took hit after hit. They moved as if they were in a dance. Where one king swung, the other blocked. A perfect rhythm.

But one wrong move was all it took for destiny to claim a victor. Revon, not noticing the ice, slipped causing him to fall, losing his sword in the process.

Oberon didn’t hesitate, he leaped over to the fallen Unseelie King, and placed his sword to his throat.

Chapter XI

The Conquest of Oberon the Great: Part 9 The Battle of Two Kings

On the cool Yule morning, Oberon stood over top of his enemy, Revon, with his sword at his throat.

Oberon had been dreaming of this moment for longer than he could remember. But now that it was here, he froze.

“Do it, you coward,” Revon hissed.

Oberon said a prayer to the gods for Revon’s soul as he plunged his sword into his enemy’s throat. He watched as Revon slowly stopped moving, and his head rolled to the side.

The Seelie celebrated! After three long years, they won the war with the Unseelie. King Oberon united the two courts, and created the kingdom we know today, Shadowmere.

Chapter XII

Kobbler Jay, a jester in King Oberon’s court, was visiting one of his favourite taverns on his day off.

Everything was as it always was, the bard was singing, the barmaid was pouring drinks for patrons as guests played card games.

Kobbler Jay sipped his ale, leaning back in his chair listening to the bard’s music.

Suddenly the door to the tavern burst open, the cold winter wind blew in, as warriors in all black stormed in and started attacking patrons. They flipped over tables and threw goblets of ale across the room.

“IN THE NAME OF THE UNSEELIE HEIR!” They shouted.

Kobbler Jay escaped the chaos and ran straight to the castle to report what he had witnessed.

Chapter XIII

Cherry the Bubble Fairy walked the streets of the Yuletide market using her magic to create beautiful bubbles for all who wandered by.

She sang a lovely Yule carol as she worked her magic. She turned a corner only to find a group of fae warriors dressed in all black, destroying the market, shouting “FOR THE ONE TRUE KING!”

Out of nowhere, the king’s guard appeared and a fight broke out in the streets.

Cherry quickly ran back the way she came, and didn’t stop until she made it home.

Chapter XIIII

King Oberon paced the floor of his chamber. He looked out at the large windows at the beautiful snow-covered Shadowmere.

He looked at the letter that was in his hand.

“Every great king will fall. Find me at the Yule ball.”

It had shown up anonymously, but he knew who it was from, the unknown Unseelie heir.

Oberon crumpled the piece of paper and threw it against the wall.

Chapter XV

Oberon sat in one of the castle's meeting rooms with his closest advisors.

“There have been more than ten attacks in the city this week alone,” Willow said as she read from a scroll.

Oberon growled in frustration. “I have had enough of this so-called heir.” He slammed his fist on the table.

“What do you suggest, Your Grace?” Willow asked.

“I want every soldier we can spare at the Yule ball. I want guards dressed in civilian clothing, and spies in every corner. If this Unseelie heir wants to attend, let’s make it a night he will never forget. I will catch this Unseelie heir, if it is the last thing I do.” Oberon said as a wicked smile spread across his face.

Chapter XVI

At the Yuletide Ball, Kobbler Jay is finishing up his final performance as a loud crash came from stage left.  Joshua had knocked over a chair while reaching to grabCherry and holds a sword to her neck.

Cherry screams in terror as the crowd cries out in shock.

Jaclyn yells out, “Joshua, what in the name of the gods are you doing?”

Joshua ignores Jaclyn and turns to Oberon.  “Oberon, you have something of mine. Give it to me now and no one will get hurt.”

“What are you talking about? What does the king have that is yours?”

“Can you not guess, Jaclyn?”

Jaclyn stares at him.

Joshua grumbles through gritted teeth, “My sword. The king has the sword that rightfully belongs to me. I have my book and my chalice, and now I just need my sword.”

Jaclyn in disbelief gasps, “You are the Unseelie heir?”

The crowd gasps.

Joshua laughs evilishly, “Aye! I am the heir that has been haunting Shadowmere.”

“I trusted you.” Jaclyn glares.

Joshua, turning back to Oberon, declares, “Give me the First Fae’s Sword or I will kill your guests one-by-one starting with Cherry.”

Jaclyn draws her sword, “You hide behind an unarmed guest?” she laughs mockingly.  “Are you that much of a coward? Leave her alone and fight me for your sword.”

Joshua throws Cherry to the side, and attacks Jaclyn.

Fighting, fighting, and more fighting ensures until Jaclyn disarms him. She goes for the killing blow when King Oberon shouts,  “No! Don’t kill him. I want him alive for questioning.”

Two guards come out and take Joshua away.

The elves from Invoketress start clapping and cheering “ Three cheers for Jaclyn, hero of Shadowmere. Huzzah! Huzzah! Huzzah!” The dancers pull the crowd to the dance floor and everyone dances in celebration of their new found safety.

Chapter XVII

Oberon stared into the cell, looking at the male who confessed to being the Unseelie heir at the Yule Ball. He watched as the royal healer examined him.

Oberon didn’t know why but his gut told him something was wrong.

The healer closed the cell door behind him and walked over to the king. “He says he doesn’t know how he got here, Your Grace. He claims to be a pure-blooded Seelie, and hasn’t heard of an Unseelie heir. He seems to be missing weeks if not months of memories.”

“Was he bewitched?” Willow asked.

“Perhaps,” the healer started, “or he is a very good liar.”

“Is there a way to find out if he was bewitched?” Oberon asked.

“Yes, but it will take me some time to gather the herbs I will need for the potion.”

“Do whatever you must,” Oberon commanded. And the healer quickly turned, and scurried down the hall.

Oberon and Willow stood side by side looking into the cell. Willow whispered, “If he isn’t the Unseelie heir...who is?”

Prince Caraway & His Quest for Love: PART I

Chapter I

After  months of turmoil, with the threat of the return of Unseelie Heir,  Shadowmere has finally started to return to its once peaceful, thriving realm.

The whispers of an Unseelie Heir have stopped. Those who supported his rebellion were rounded up and put to death for treason.

As  winter has melted away and the warm weather starts to sprout, King  Oberon and his top advisors gathered to discuss ways to raise morale  throughout the realm.

“We are already scheduled to host our regular seasonal events, Your Grace,” an advisor said.

“We  need something more than our usual events,” Oberon shouted, as he left  the table and started pacing the room. “Our people need more than a  party. They need hope.”

King Oberon stopped in front of The Chalice of Fate, and traced its rim with this finger.

“How about a wedding, Your Grace?” Willow, the king’s right hand suggested.

Oberon turned and looked at her. “A wedding?”

“A wedding. A wedding will give the realm a reason to celebrate, and restore hope in the royal family.”

“And who might I ask, will be getting married?”

“Prince Caraway, of course,” Willow stated.

Oberon smiled wide as he squealed in delight, “excellent!”

Chapter II

King  Oberon didn’t wait to tell his son of his plans to find him a wife.  When his meeting with his advisor was over he marched straight to his  son’s wing of the castle.

Prince  Caraway was in his court yard training with his captain of the guard.  As Oberon approached he shouted, “stop. Stop. Stop.”

Caraway,  puzzled by his father’s odd intrusion, put down his sword and turned to  his father. “Father, what brings you to my practice?"

“Caraway my son, it is time that you found a wife.”

“A wife?”

“Yes.  As heir to my throne, it is time that you take a wife, and strengthen  our family’s line. While giving our people a reason to celebrate.”

“But father-”

“No  buts. This is not up for discussion. You are the heir to the throne of  Shadowmere, and my first born son. You will find a wife by the Yuletide  Ball, and that is final.”

King Oberon didn’t wait for his son to reply. He simply turned on his heel, and walked out of the courtyard.

Chapter III

Prince Caraway sat on the bench in his room that was closest to the window. He kept replaying his father’s words in his head. It is time that you found a wife.

Caraway  tried to be excited for this change. He knew this day would come. It  was a part of his princely duties to marry. But as hard as he tried he  couldn’t help but be disappointed.

He had hoped that when he would marry it would not be just for duty, but for love.

As he looked out the window at the night sky his eyes landed on the  brightest star, and he wished that he would meet the woman of his  dreams.

Chapter IV

Attention Merry Citizens of Shadowmere:

Our dear King Oberon, has announced that his son and heir to the throne,  Prince Caraway, is ready to take a wife. The King and Queen of  Shadowmere would like to officially invite all of the eligible maidens  of the realm, no matter their rank, to attend the upcoming Spring Ball,  and present themselves to the prince.

As  is tradition in the realm, at the ball the Prince will choose six women  that he will court from now into the Yuletide Ball. Throughout the  season the women will compete for the Prince's love and affection,  proving why they should be the princess and future queen of Shadowmere.  Prince Caraway will eliminate any woman he no longer feels attached to,  and will announce his bride at the Yuletide Ball.

Goodluck, maidens. May the Gods bless Prince Caraway with his one true mate.

Chapter V

King Oberon ate dinner with his wife, Queen Nissa. A loud boom shook their dining table, as the door to the room slammed against the wall.

To their surprise their son, Caraway stood in the doorway.

“Father, mother,” he bowed. “What is this I hear that I am to host a competition to find my bride?” Anger radiated off of him.

“It is tradition, Caraway,” said Queen Nissa.

“A  tradition that hasn’t been followed for centuries and centuries. You  said I needed to find a wife, you didn’t say anything about it being a  spectacle!”

“Don’t  raise your voice at me,” Oberon snarled. “I am not just your father, I  am your king, and you will show me some respect.” Oberon let out a sigh.  “The people need this Caraway. They need something to look forward to  after such dark days.”

“So, I am just a pawn in your political game?”

“If  that is the way you want to see it, then so be it. I choose to see it  as an opportunity for my son to meet every eligible woman in the realm.”  Oberon continued, “you will pick six women to court at the Spring Ball,  or I will pick for you.”

Oberon returned his gaze back to his food and  resumed his dinner.

Caraway clenched his jaw so tightly it hurt, before he turned and left the room slamming the door as he left.

Chapter VI

Days until the Spring Ball and the realm is buzzing with excitement. The young, attractive, prince of Shadowmere will be searching for his bride.

Young, eligible ladies from all over the realm have traveled far and wide to come and try to woo the prince.

Citizens of Shadowmere, young and old, are excited to watch their beloved prince find love.

Chapter VII

Prince Caraway sat on his throne at the Spring Ball as each eligible maid in the realm was presented to him. Fae females from far and wide came to the Spring Ball just to get a chance to be a princess.

The announcer called maiden after maiden. They would bow before him, exchange a few words, laugh, and smile before carrying on their way.

“Announcing  Flora from Eysea,” Caraway heard the announcer shout. Caraway watched as a young maiden, in an off-season dress, walked towards him. As she  went to bow, she tripped and fell forward. Caraway lunged for her and caught her before she hit the ground.

“Are you okay?” the prince asked.

“For  gods' sake!” she cried out. Her language shocked the prince. “These  shoes are too big, but I couldn’t afford a pair this nice.” Her cheeks  turned red. “I shouldn’t have said that. Forgive me, your majesty.”

A soft laugh left Caraway’s lips. “There is nothing to forgive.” The pair chatted for a few more minutes before Flora left and another maiden was announced.

Prince Caraway & His Quest for Love: PART II

Chapter I

Six scrolls in Prince Caraway’s own hand have left the castle this morning by carrier pigeon.

Each one an invitation to six lucky women who will get the chance to compete to be the realms next princess.

Women all over the realm wait in anticipation. Which young maidens has the prince chosen?

Chapter II

While official notice of the Prince’s choices will be given at the Evening Affair, gossip tends to spread throughout Shadowmere like a wildfire. Needless to say, everyone in the realm seems to already know who the six women are.

It is rumored that the Prince’s chosen six are as follows:

Lady Rosetta from Turora

Lady Aurora from Adalens

Lady Hazel from Dueshire

Lady Celeste from Frodence

Lady Elowyn from Leport

Flora from Eysea

These six names are being whispered about in every market square and tavern in Shadowmere. The maiden everyone has their eye on is Flora from Eysea,  a commoner. Commoners have always been allowed to present themselves to  royal suitors, but rarely does one make the six.

What is it about this Flora from Eysea that has caught our Prince’s eye?

Chapter III

Next week the realm will gather for an elegant Evening Affair, and officially get to meet the six women who have stolen the prince’s  attention.

There  is a wonderful carefree, peaceful aura about the realm. It seems as our  Prince Caraway opens his heart and starts his quest for love, the realm  has also opened its heart. It is a beautiful time of celebration and  happiness.
